Unplug the disposer and use something to get down inside to see if you can get the item out that is blocking the disposal from spinning. Every garbage disposal comes with a hex. You can use your hand but be sure the disposal is unplugged from power rr. The humming or sometimes buzzing sound that your garbage disposal makes is an indication that there is power coming into the unit but the blades are not turning.

Turn on the water at the sink. If it does not stay in the disposal turn off the water and wait 10 minutes for the disposal motor to cool. If the garbage disposal won t turn on but the motor makes a humming sound when you flip the switch it indicates that the inner flywheel is jammed. To do this simply find the reset button and push it in.

Push the reset button in on the disposal. If the garbage disposal will not budge using the wrenchette then something large is in the disposal that will not let it turn. If your garbage disposal is still humming after you ve unjammed it or manually rotated the grinding plate there s a good chance the disposer will need to be reset. This will reset your garbage disposal.

The humming sound can be a sign that the motor is clogged or jammed resulting in its failure to grind. Make sure the disposal is not jammed.
